Description

EGIG 170CC CYLINDER KIT FOR VESPA SMALLFRAME V50, V90, PV, ET3, PK…

The EGIG 170cc cylinder kit for Vespa Smallframe is made up of cylinder and crankshaft. The crankshaft has an extra long connecting rod (115mm instead of 97mm as standard on models from 80cc). Thus the area of the overflows could be moved from the engine block into the cylinder. Thus no milling work, neither at the cylinder nor at the housing, is necessary for a high mixture flow. In addition, the long connecting rod gives particularly smooth running as well as little stress on the piston skirt due to the special connecting rod ratio of 0.44 (stroke to connecting rod length).
So with cylinder and crankshaft even a 50cc standard engine can be upgraded to a 170cc suitable for touring and everyday use.
The power at the rear wheel is then, depending on the exhaust and carburettor used, around 20-25HP and up to 24Nm (without milling work on the engine or cylinder, with diaphragm inlet at the cylinder).
The only necessary modification to the engine case is to lower the edge of the case that rises above the sealing surface at the base of the engine cylinder
.
This is taken down to 2mm (file/dremel will do, no need to plan down to the sealing surface).

The cylinder is built together with the EGIG 170 crankshaft as a diaphragm controlled engine. This means that the intake for the mixture is done automatically by a diaphragm box screwed to the cylinder. No timing (as with the rotary valve) must be observed. Alternatively, of course, intake control can be realized via the engine housing. If this is to be done via the standard rotary slide valve, EGIG offers a crankshaft with rotary slide valve cheek.

  • Displacement: 170ccm

  • Stroke:51mm

  • Bore: Ø65mm

  • Connecting rod length: 115mm

  • Number of overflow channels: 6

  • Exhaust shape: One-piece

  • Exhaust width: 66% of bore

  • Control angle: 126°-185

  • Cylinder material: Cast iron

  • Number of piston rings: 2

  • Intake control: Direct (on cylinder)

  • Alternative: Intake via housing (diaphragm or rotary vane)

  • Almost no milling work necessary on the housing

  • Stud distance intake port: 54,5mm

  • Stud distance at exhaust: 56mm

  • Cylinder stud length: min. 155mm

  • Power of more than 25HP and 24NM are possible without milling work.

  • Recommendation mixing ratio oil/petrol: 1:33 (e.g. Motul800)

Due to the one-piece exhaust and its overflow layout in combination with relatively large displacement (for a Vespa smallframe engine), the cylinder is a true torque beast. Even with an original gearbox (with standard 4th gear) and already long 2.46 primary (orig. on 125cc is 2.56) accelerating through from 35 to 135+km/h without a power hole is no problem. This was tested in conjunction with the EGIG Superbanana Sport.
