Description
NEW – BGM PRO SPORT gearshift paddle with three-zone hardening
The BGM PRO SPORT gearshift cross now has three-zone hardening.
Elastic on the inside – maximum resistance on the outside
-
Inside up to 45HRC
-
Center 50-55HRC
-
Outside 58-60HRC
QUALITY
BGM PRO uses a very good base material – a 15CrMo5 (SCM415) chrome molybdenum steel. This case-hardening steel is inherently tough, but its alloying elements (chromium, manganese, nickel, molybdenum) also make it very wear-resistant.
HARDENING
The additional, complex three-zone hardening offers increased wear resistance with maximized protection and durability of the gear components. It is therefore ideally suited to the high demands of today’s powerful and high-torque engines. The underlying technical principle ranges from an elastic inner core to a firmer middle section to the stable and resistant outer flanks that engage with the gear wheel.
ADVANTAGE
Compared to a simple hardening (same hardness over the entire component) of a conventional derailleur hanger, the BGM PRO SPORT offers considerable advantages.
Thanks to the elastic core, it can also withstand coarser shifting, while at the same time the flanks are very resistant to wear.
DURABILITY
With HRC 58-60, the BGM PRO SPORT is at the same hardness level as gear wheels. This is the upper limit that we recommend for a derailleur sprocket. Our analyses have shown that some of the available derailleur gears from other suppliers have significantly higher hardness levels. In a conventional and old-fashioned design such as the splined gearbox in Vespa engines, this leads to the gear cross still looking good even after decades, but the gearwheels wear excessively quickly. BGM PRO therefore continues to follow Piaggio’s original design concept and allows the gearshift cross to be the component that absorbs the inevitable wear of such a gearbox design instead of the gearwheels.
INSTALLATION TIPS
To optimize the durability of all transmission components, the following points should be observed for largeframe engines:
-
Gearshift detent without recognizable wear (roller bracket of the detent must not have any play in the bearing)
-
Correctly distance the gearbox during engine overhaul (maximum play should not exceed 0.4 mm, we recommend staying well below this (ideal: 0.1 mm))
-
The meshing surfaces of the shift spider in the gears should be flat
-
Combination type of gear wheels / gear cross / gear shift must match (do not mix PX old (cranked gear cross) and PX Lusso (flat gear cross))
-
The thread in the gearshift cross is a left-hand thread. To loosen the bolt, unscrew it clockwise.
